Het Schoter is a secondary school in the city of Haarlem with around 1,400 students (as of 2026). The school’s history spans more than a century. The Tweede HBS-B was founded in 1919 in a villa located on the outskirts of Haarlem. In 1929, the Tweede HBS moved to a new, larger school building. After the Second World War, the school was renamed the Lorentz Lyceum. Another name change occurred in 1984, following a merger with the Klaas de Vries School. From that year onwards, the school was known as Schoter Scholengemeenschap—or simply Het Schoter—a name it still bears today.
Sports, theater, art and internationalization play a vital role at Het Schoter. The school offers dedicated sports, theater and art classes, as well as bilingual education at all levels. Regular exchange programs are organized with schools across Europe and sometimes even further afield. Furthermore, the school holds Erasmus accreditation and participates in the IB program for English. We aim to expand our network of (international) partners and increase collaboration with schools worldwide through both in-person and online exchange projects. In doing so, we hope to prepare our students as effectively as possible for global citizenship.
